Arthritis- Joint Pain
Gout, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis
Arthritis is very common but is not well understood. Actually, “arthritis” is not a single disease; it is an informal way of referring to joint pain or joint disease. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis and related conditions. Common arthritis joint symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness and decreased range of motion.
Arthritis most often affecting the hip, knee, spine or other weight-bearing joints, but also found in the fingers and other non-weight-bearing joints. Some forms of arthritis can also affect other parts of the body like heart, eyes, lungs, kidneys and skin.
Types:
There are around 200 types of arthritis, or musculoskeletal conditions. These are split into seven main groups:
- Inflammatory arthritis
- Degenerative or mechanical arthritis
- Soft tissue musculoskeletal pain
- Back pain
- Connective tissue disease
- Infectious arthritis
- Metabolic arthritis.
Two Main Types Of Arthritis
Arthritis conditions are grouped into two broad categories:
Consuming a balanced and nutritious diet may help prevent further damage to the joints.
1. Oily fish: Oily fish contain lots of healthful omega-3 fatty acids. These polyunsaturated fats have anti-inflammatory properties so they may benefit people with osteoarthritis.
2. Oils: Extra virgin olive oil contains high levels of oleocanthal, which may have similar properties to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
3. Dairy: Milk, yogurt, and cheese are rich in calcium and vitamin D. These nutrients increase bone strength, which may improve painful symptoms.
4. Dark leafy greens: Dark leafy greens are rich in Vitamin D and stress-fighting phytochemicals and antioxidants. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption and can also boost the immune system, helping the body to fight off infection.
5. Broccoli: Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which researchers believe could slow the progression of osteoarthritis. This vegetable is also rich in vitamins K and C, as well as bone-strengthening calcium.
6. Green tea: Polyphenols are antioxidants that experts believe may be able to reduce inflammation and slow the rate of cartilage damage. Green tea contains high levels of polyphenols.
7. Garlic: Scientists believe that a compound called diallyl disulfide that occurs in garlic may work against the enzymes in the body that damage cartilage.
8. Nuts: Nuts are good for the heart and contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin E, and fiber. They also contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which boosts the immune system.

Can Collagen Help With Osteoarthritis & Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is defined as “inflammation of the joints” and is considered a degenerative disease that causes the breakdown of cartilage in between the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is caused by an over-activation of the immune system, where inflammation occurs in joint cartilage. For RA and OA both, inflammation occur in the joints and this leads to the breakdown of cartilage.
Research has added validity to the possibility that collagen supplementation may be beneficial for people with both OA and RA. According to the latest studies, targeted collagen supplementation can also help to ease the swelling, pain, and stiffness associated with OA. A large-scale meta-analysis sponsored by the University of Sydney in Australia concluded that collagen supplementation was more successful than any other supplements they studied at reducing pain in osteoarthritis patients.
Another study published in Nutrition Journal 2016 found that after 180 days, those who took a specific collagen Type II supplement experienced significantly better relief from pain, stiffness, and function than the placebo group and a slightly higher level of comfort than those who took a chondroitin supplement.

Note: Always consume branded high quality collagen as it should be cleaned sourced.

Arthritis and the acidic body
A body that is toxic and acidic easily gets arthritis. If you are suffering from arthritis pain, one thing that you can do to lessen the pain is to find ways on how to reduce the acidity and toxins in your body. With that, alkaline water can be of big help. Alkaline water helps to balance your body’s pH and remove toxins.
Your body can become acidic in many ways. Your diet (Chemicals in food) is one factor that. But, pollution and contaminants in your food and water supply also play a big role. Once your body becomes too acidic, your bones and muscles will lose their alkaline minerals causing you to develop acidosis. Thus, allowing arthritis to thrive in your joints. So what to do next? Detoxify your body and drink alkaline water to balance your body’s pH level.
How alkaline water can help
The main benefit of alkaline water is that it neutralizes acids in the body. Our body is 70% water; so changing water has a large impact on our pH. Once our pH levels roll towards alkalinity, arthritis cannot start.
Helping our body to balance at the cellular level is another benefit of alkaline water. Cells need water to flush away toxins and take in nutrients, but if the water is too acidic, the process is hindered. By drinking alkaline water, you can assist this process. Think of it this way – if your car has a cleaner the oil, the more efficiently your car will run.

Losing weight is challenging for many people, but it’s even more daunting if you’re living with painful arthritis. Carrying extra pounds can have a big impact on how you feel. Being overweight also puts you at greater risk for arthritis.
More weight puts more pressure on your joints, and extra body fat increases inflammation in the body. Inflammation is associated with both osteoarthritis (when the cartilage between the bones at your joint wears away) and inflammatory arthritis (arthritis that’s marked by swollen, warm joints), Dr. Carter says.
